Shops and Services in Benidorm, Alicante

Stay healthy and savvy in Spain

A trip can be ruined if you get ill, so check out what to do if you feel under the weather in the section below. For now, let’s talk how to get a good deal…

Splurging on Benidorm Bargains

There are gift shops galore lining the streets of Benidorm and you can buy everything you need in the supermarkets; even most of the British brands you love back home.

Shops selling designer labels at affordable prices can be found around the Plaza Triangular and the wide Avenida del Mediterráneo.

You’ll find that prices are very reasonable here; alcohol and cigarettes in particular are very much cheaper than at home, so you’ll want to buy enough to take home with you.

If you’re looking for something special to take home, you can’t beat market prices; the best buys are lace, jewellery, leather goods, tablecloths and ceramics.

Remember that you can always barter – it’s the best way to grab yourself a bargain, plus it’s fun doing it.

Antiques Roadshow

Every Wednesday there is an open-air market and you can look for treasure at the Rastro (basically a car boot sale!), held every Sunday next to the railway station. You might even be talking about your find on a future Antiques Roadshow.

There are street markets in most towns in the area so you can visit one every day of the week if you want. Find out where and when they are by visiting the local Tourist Office.

Looking after your health in Spain

There are no health risks associated with travel to Spain. In fact the Spanish healthcare system is one of the best in Europe and the wonderful climate and healthy diet means a longer, healthier life for people who live here.

You must take your E111 card or the more up to date European Health Insurance Card (EHIC); this will entitle you to free fast medical care, if you should need it.

If you have a niggling minor health worry, first try one of the Spanish pharmacies (Farmacias), indicated by a flashing green cross on the outside of the shop. They will either provide the necessary medication or advise about which clinic to attend.

Make a note of the number to call in emergencies – 112.

The nearest general hospital is a short 15 minute drive along the coast at Villajoyosa (Phone: 0034 96 685 98 00).

If you want a happy, healthier way of life, think about making your home in Spain. You can view some affordable Spanish properties on this site or request a brochure.
